Who am I and What is This?

[Who are we?]

Wild Child, 2008

As a child, and admittedly still to this day, I am unable to answer the question of what I want to be when I grow up. There are so many different paths that are so enticing in their own way. I'd love to own a flower shop and bakery but I also want to sit on the UN panel and change the world. I want to own a homestead but at the same time travel to every country and never return. It's sad to think that we can be anything we want to be but not all at once; but it's also beautiful to think that this life is so full of fun and opportunity just waiting for us to find it.

Younger me had a dream of becoming a photographer for National Geographic but it seemed unrealistic and unachievable so I pushed it aside. When it came time to choose, Disaster Management seemed like the perfect way to help those in need.

However, after my first year of studying, and then the sudden pandemic, I began re-evaluating and realised I lacked a creative outlet. That's when I decided to start a small photography business and while on internship in rural Mozambique, I began to explore photojournalism; finally connecting the dots between my education and side-hustle. These experiences then took me to a summer camp in the US where I realised a career mashed up of everything I love actually isn't such a far off concept after all. I think younger me would be quite impressed.

So just like me, North of Hannah is a mix of everything, a little bit of lifestyle, lots of travel, some personal musings; basically just a culmination of of my passions: exploring, photography, journalism, helping others, shopping locally and sustainably, design and my faith. It's a blog and a store and a portfolio and a documentary because why should it be just one? Naming it was the hardest part, but the result is inspired by the compass direction but more importantly reminds me that what is important in this life is above. So if nothing else, I hope you meet a little bit of Jesus in these pages because when all else fails, joy is still found in Him.
